Claude Monet was a French painter who is considered one of the founders of Impressionism.

2. His father wanted him to become a grocer, but Claude Monet instead pursued his passion for painting.

4. Claude Monet often painted outdoors and his subjects included landscapes, gardens, and flowers.
5. He was married twice and had eight children altogether. Six of his children died at young ages.
6. In 1890, Claude Monet bought a house in Giverny where he created his famous water lily garden that would be the subject of many of his paintings.
7. At the age of 66, Claude Monet developed cataracts which caused him to paint with increasingly vibrant colours as he tried to compensate for his deteriorating vision.
8. In 1899, he co-founded an art colony in Giverny called “Les XX”.
